The Boston Celtics have looked into trade talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the number one overall pick to select Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker and this comes as the Cavs have received another offer from the Orlando Magic for their pick in the top five along with Arron Afflalo and now the team must decide whether to trade or not before Thursday's event.
The Cavaliers got the top pick in the draft for the second straight season and with Joel Embiid getting hurt, the top part of the draft has been thrown into a tizzy. According to ESPN.com, the Cavs would have selected Embiid if he was healthy, but now with his surgery he is out of the running and now the team could trade the pick. ESPN.com is reporting on the Celtics interest along with the Orlando Magic deal, which would include a top five pick and the number 12 pick.
The Cavaliers may not be able to turn down two first round picks for their number one even with talented players like Wiggins and Parker there. ESPN writes that the Celtics have two picks as well, but both are lower than the Magic and that means Rajon Rondo likely would have to get dealt and the team is not looking into that. The Celtics may try and take Embiid if he slips, but this now is an option as well.
The 76ers are another team that is in the mix to trade up, as they want Wiggins and if Embiid falls, there is a good chance they will not get him. Reports have the team willing to trade their number three pick along with Thaddeus Young for the top selection and that would still give the team two top 10 picks. The team has another first rounder from the Pelicans trade last year with Nerlens Noel and that could enable them to make this deal for Wiggins.
The Cavaliers got the number 1 pick in the draft for the second year in a row and this time they did it despite having a 1.7 percent chance at getting the lottery pick. The Bucks had a 25 percent chance and now they are picking at number two behind the Cavaliers and with Embiid's injury, teams could be calling the Bucks about trades as well and that could get a team like the Sixers worried, as they are banking on getting Wiggins. The Sixers have reportedly called about trading up to the number one pick and PBT reports that Arn Tellem, Embiid's agent, is hoping he can get his client to the Celtics or Lakers.
Chad Ford from ESPN.com writes that the Celtics have a number of players, including like Jared Sullinger, Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk or Kris Humphries that could fit in a deal along with number one picks at number six and number 17 and future first rounders and that combination could be too much to pass up. The Wolves have been slow to show their hand or even say if they are trading Kevin Love or not, but he has made it clear that he wants to bounce out of Minnesota.
