The Phoenix Suns had a surprisingly good season in 2013-14 and now heading into the summer, the team may look at a trade with Goran Dragic as they try and sign Eric Bledsoe as a restricted free agent and this comes after the team drafted point guard Tyler Ennis in the draft and GM Ryan McDonagh may target names like Chandler Parsons, LeBron James, Isaiah Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Danny Granger, Channing Frye and Marvin Williams in free agency.
The Suns won 48 games last season and nearly made it into the playoffs before missing out and now the team has a nice core of talent with Dragic, Bledsoe, Alex Len and Miles Plumlee along with Ennis. According to ESPN.com, the Suns are not actively looking to trade Dragic, but the team may look at him as expendable now with Ennis in the fold and they may need some extra money to ensure that Bledsoe stays. Pro Basketball Talk reported that the team is looking at a deal with Bledsoe rather than trying to match if he gets an offer and it remains to be seen how high other teams will go for him.
There was a Yahoo Sports report that the Suns were going to try and convince both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James to sign because they have so much cap space, but right now that isn't looking likely or realistic. James is locked in with Miami as he watches what they do, while the Knicks, Houston Rockets, Chicago bulls, LA Lakers and Dallas Mavericks are all trying to convince Anthony to sign as a free agent. The Suns also reportedly were into the Kevin Love trade rumors, as they have first round picks to deal, but that talk has died down this offseason and it looks like the Wolves will try and trade him at the deadline rather than this summer.
According to SB Nation, the Suns are looking at a number of players on the free agent market apart from Bledsoe, including Chandler Parsons, Isaiah Thomas, Gordon Hayward and Luol Deng as well as players like Danny Granger and Trevor Ariza. The team is hoping to keep Channing Frye and some other names like Ed Davis, Spencer Hawes and Pau Gasol also could be in the mix. Last season the team was close to trading for Pau Gasol before that deal went through and now they could try and sign him on the free agent market.
Bledsoe reportedly has a number of suitors, including the Miami Heat, LA Lakers and NY Knicks and depending on where Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James sign, more teams could target him for an RFA deal. The Suns plan on matching whatever deal comes to Bledsoe and they have the cap space to do that, but they also want to keep things within reason and they could lose him if a deal comes in too high for him. The Suns feel they have a moment to make a move here and they have a young team and now with Ennis in the mix they could be even better and he comes in after averaging 12.9 points and 5.5 assists at Syracuse.
