The Houston Rockets have the chance to match the Dallas Mavericks contract for Chandler Parsons on Sunday and as that goes on, the team is chasing Greg Monroe, Lance Stephenson, Luol Deng and other free agent options after Chris Bosh opted to sign with the Miami Heat and this comes after the Rockets signed Trevor Ariza to a deal in free agency over the Washington Wizards and LA Lakers and now Yahoo Sports is reporting that the team will not match the offer.
According to ESPN.com, the Rockets are considering their options regarding Parsons and they would like to keep from going to the Dallas Mavericks on an offer sheet. ESPN reports that the team has signed Trevor Ariza to a four year deal worth $32 million and now Parsons could be their next move, as they have until 11:59 pm ET on Sunday to match the offer from Dallas. The Rockets now have to weigh what they want to do, as the Mavericks have offered Parsons a $15 million per year deal and if they lose him, it would be a major blow for Houston.
Parsons is one of the main priorities for the team after drafting him in the second round a few years ago and he has emerged as a solid starter and a strong offensive player. The Parsons offer sheet starts off at $14.7 million and Houston has the chance to match it and it comes as they struck out on Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh this offseason. Bosh had a deal nearly in place, but opted to sign back with the Miami Heat on a five year max deal. According to ESPN.com, the Mavericks and the Rockets are also keeping tabs on other free agents, including Lance Stephenson, Paul Pierce and Shawn Marion, who could re-sign with the Mavericks.
Stephenson has received an offer from the Indiana Pacers that he has rejected and according to Pro Basketball Talk, he could sign a shorter term deal to get the amount of money he wants. The Dallas Mavericks are an option along with the Houston Rockets, while the Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers have had interest, but it's not serious. The Mavericks have been dying to sign a free agent of consequence for years and after missing on Deron Williams and Dwight Howard, they now could snag Parsons.
The Rockets have a number of options this offseason after they missed out on Chris Bosh as well as Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, as they could engage back on the Kevin Love trade talks or immediately they could go after Deng, but now it appears he has signed with the Heat. Parsons has been a main priority as well and now that he has an offer sheet from the Mavericks, the team has until Sunday night to match it or let him go and that could be a major blow. The team lost out on Bosh to a max deal and now they have the chance to sign Deng and Parsons, but that comes as the Miami Heat are also chasing Deng and now they have signed him.
