The British Open Championship 2014 starts on Thursday from Royal Liverpool for the next PGA Tour major on the schedule and things start early for Round 1 on the east coast as players like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott try and derail Phil Mickelson after winning last year.
Mickelson won the Scottish Open last year ahead of his British Open win and now he will be looking for two in a row starting on Thursday. Mickelson and McIlroy played in the Scottish Open last week, while Woods last played in the Quicken Loans and missed the cut there. Woods is coming back from an injury and he was not sharp his last time out, but he said that he is feeling good heading into the tournament and that he feels he can compete here.
Woods will be playing with Angel Cabrera and Henrik Stetson, teeing off very early ereh are 4:04 am ET and 9:05 am local time and he will be ahead of Mickelson, who will start in the afternoon and at 9 am ET. Mickelson is playing with Masters Champion Bubba Watson and Ernie Els and that will be a group to watch, while Woods will be looking to win the major here after taking it at Royal Liverpool back in 2006. Martin Kaymer won the US Open and he will tee off in the afternoon as well and is playing with Jason Day and Zach Johnson.
McIlroy is looking to start off strong once again, as he was leading the Scottish Open heading into the weekend before fading and now he is looking to bounce back. Adam Scott and Justin Rose will be playing with Jason Dufner and Rose comes in after winning the past two events he has started.
