The NFL free agent pool is down to the bottom and there are still some solid names out there for teams as they prepare to head into training camp, as Tim Tebow, Santonio Holmes, Jermichael Finley, James Harrison, Ed Reed, Asante Samuel, Josh Freeman, Austin Collie, Terrell Thomas and Eric Winston are on the market and teams like the Dallas Cowboys, NY Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks may look at some of these players as targets.
Tim Tebow is getting ready for his SEC Network job at ESPN, so it's very unlikely that he will be in training camp this summer or in the near future. Tebow has said many times that he plains on continuing to pursue his NFL career, but right now he does not have a place in the league and that could continue the longer he is out of the game. Tebow never really got a fair shot following his trade from the Broncos and now the star is looking to move to TV over the NFL. The Jets screwed him in the way they released him last year and now he likely will be looked at as an NFL bust although it's more complicated than that.
Josh Freeman is on the market and while he had a dreadful season last year, he could be in line to get on a roster, as he is just 26 years old. There are a number of teams that are in need of more backups, including the Dallas Cowboys after Kyle Orton, while ESPN suggests that the Detroit Lions could be a fit. Matthew Stafford has been relatively healthy in recent years, but his backup is Dan Orlovsky and that is nothing special. Freeman has some solid seasons in his past, including in 2012 when he had 10 more TDs than picks, but right now teams are staying away from him after his year in Tampa and Minnesota and his short stint this offseason with the Giants.
Ronnie Brown is also on the market and he could be an option for teams looking for depth at running back, as he is a good pass catcher out of the backfield. Brown has rushed for over 5,000 yards in his career and once injuries pile up, he likely will get a job. Holmes is likely to get picked up eventually, as training camp usually has WRs coming in and out and he could be a fit for a number of teams. Holmes is coming in after playing in just 15 games over the past two years while dealing with injuries and he only had 43 catches in that time.
Jermichael Finley is one to watch, as if he is healthy he will get picked up by someone and everyone thinks the Giants are a fit. The team has basically ignored the tight end position and while they have Kellen Davis, the team could look at adding a player like Finley. Finley was on his way to a solid year with 25 catches for 300 yards before his neck injury and now he is looking to get back into the league.
Training camps start opening next week with the Giants and Bills since they are playing the Hall of Fame game and teams will continue opening camps after that. Will Tim Tebow be in camp? Not likely.
