With Deron Williams committing to Brooklyn, the Dallas Mavericks' point guard priorities are now shifting to 39-year old and former Mav Steve Nash and the New York Knicks' Jeremy Lin.
The Mavs may have taken too much of Nash's time keeping him waiting for so long. They're set to lose shooting guard Jason Terry to Boston, who was offered a three-year $15 million deal, and with Williams' decision to re-sign with Brooklyn, the Mavs seem to be at the end of their rope.
Steve Nash is now the top point guard free agent and, with Williams' decision, is now the target for many teams. The Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, and the New York Knicks are three teams besides the Mavs to be bidding for the rights to Nash.
The Los Angeles Lakers' likely course of action to continue their pursuit of Nash would be a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers could offer point guard Ramon Sessions and forwards Jordan Hill and Matt Barnes in any proposed deal.
The New York Knicks, however, may be out of contention for the Nash lottery. The Knicks, who expressed interest, were willing to do a sign-and-trade for Nash. That plan all but fell out the window once the Raptors acquired Knicks guard Landry Fields.
Nash is beginning to run out of options and though the idea of playing with Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, and being reunited with Amar'e Stoudemire, seemed like a dream, it's more than likely not going to happen.
Toronto have shown how much they want Nash, and now may be the time he begins to show how much he wants to play there and lead a good young team into the playoffs.
The Raptors have offered the two-time NBA MVP a three-year, $36 million contract. With the verbal agreement reached with Fields, the Raptors hope that will further pursued Nash to join their roster.
