The Capital One Cup first round starts live on Monday with Carlisle United taking on Derby County and the match starts up at 7:45 pm local time and 2:45 pm ET at Brunton Park and League Two team United is hosting the match for the Championship club Derby and this game for the first round tie has a number of players looking to step up and this match could be a good one between these sides as the domestic tournament opens up for 2014-15.
Carlisle United started off their season in League Two with a loss and that came at home against Luton Town and now they will start things off in the first round for this tournament. The Rams will play against Carlisle in the Capital One Cup and they lost their first match after being relegated from League One and Luton scored the winning goal after a half hour and now these teams have the chance to open the Cap Cup.
Carlisle striker Stephen Elliot likely will make his debut at home after signing and he came in as a sub in the last match for the team and this gives the club a chance to play a tough opponent as they try to start off this tournament on the right foot. Derby defender Mark O'Brien did not play in the opening game against Rotherham and he may get some play now unless he is out, while Leon Best and Omar Mascarell could start for the Rams in this game.
Elliott signed last week and likely will see some action and George Thorne will be out with a knee injury for this game. The two teams have met just once in League Cup play and before that loss against Derby, Carlisle had not lost in 13 straight matches to the team and now they have another chance to get it done. Carlisle has allowed 11 goals in their last three games in the League Cup against a team from a higher division and they hope to avoid that same fate on Monday.
Derby has played well in these situations and they are looking to do the same against here. The English Premier League season opens next weekend and there are a number of big games on the schedule. Manchester city comes in after winning the title last season and they ended up on top over Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, with those teams all qualifying for the Champions League. The Gunners are in the playoffs and they will have a match to see if they will advance into group play.
