After Chipper Jones was selected to the All-Star Game as a fill-in for Matt Kemp, the last National League roster sport could go to one of these four players; David Freese, Bryce Harper, Michael Bourn and Aaron Hill.
So far, David Freese is in the lead, followed by rookie phenom Bryce Harper.
Freese has had a monster season so far. He has hit 13 home runs and driven in 50 runs.
This comes right after a remarkable postseason. In his first postseason appearance, Freese proved the difference for the championship St. Louis Cardinals. In 19 games, he hit .397 with 5 home runs and 21 runs batted in.
His Game 6 home run immediately made it one of the most memorable moments in the World Series.
Clearly, Freese's World Series performance was not a one-time thing.
The competition for Freese is clearly Harper.
So far in 2012, Harper has had a great rookie season. In 59 games he has 8 homers and 23 RBI. His numbers do tell the complete story.
People around Major League Baseball have commended Harper on his hardnose style of play and has shown maturity in early parts of the season.
Here are the numbers for the other two players available in the voting.
Michael Bourn, the speedster, has 23 stolen bases and is hitting .310 with a career-high in home runs. He is currently making a run for first as he has received 7% more votes than Freese in the last hour.
Aaron Hill is having a revival season. His 2009, 36 home runs and 109 RBI season seems long ago. Though the numbers do not remotely compare, the second baseman is hitting .300, has 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
Twitter has opened up voting to fans.
All you have to do is hashtag (#) your players name and it will count as a vote.
For example, a pretty clever one for the leading vote getter, #freeseplease. Once that is typed on Twitter, David Freese will get a vote.
