In a new twist, to only add to the drama that has been this NBA off season, the Los Angeles Clippers are passing on Ray Allen and have decided to re-sign Chauncey Billups and add on Jamal Crawford.
The Clippers have been in search of a shooting guard to pair with point guard Chris Paul. Paul had been recruiting Allen, who was scheduled to visit the Clippers on Friday.
Billups, who played 20 games with the Clippers last season, will get a one-year deal, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard. The Los Angeles Times, which first reported the moves, reported that the contract up to $4.3 million.
Crawford, who opted out of the last year of his deal with the Trail Blazers, will receive a multiyear contract. Sources told Broussard that he gets a four-year deal between $21 million and $25 million. The Times, on the other hand, reported that he will get a three-year deal for $15.7 million.
Crawford provides traditional shooting guard for the Clippers. The 2010 NBA Sixth Man of the Year winner will be able to sign on July 11.
