MLB Standings AL and NL: 2014 Division Leaders and Wild Card Records August 21

The MLB Standings for the AL and NL heading into the playoffs have division leaders and wild card races getting tight and into late August, the Los Angeles Angels are leading the Oakland Athletics in the American League West, while the Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, LA Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles are division toppers, while the Mariners, Tigers, A's, Jays, Yankees, Marlins, Giants, Braves, Cardinals and Pirates are in wild card contention.

The AL East has the Orioles leading by a wide margin with the way they are playing, while the Yankees and Blue Jays are now pretty far out of it. The Kansas City Royals have vaulted ahead of the Detroit Tigers with some strong play and this is now the latest the team has been in the division lead since last making the playoffs decades ago. The Angels and A's are battling in the west, while the NL east has the Nationals killing it right now.

The NL Central has the Milwaukee Brewers leading the Cardinals and in the west the Dodgers are leading the Giants. The Athletics are leading the wild card right now and the Detroit Tigers are in the second spot by half a game and the Mariners are lurking, while the Yankees and Jays and Indians are four games back. The NL has the Cardinals and Giants in the Wild Card over the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates.
