The US Open 2014 tennis major schedule picks up on Wednesday night and Thursday with live TV coverage from ESPN and the live stream online is from WatchESPN and has all courts and matches going throughout the day from Flushing and the bracket is starting to fill out as the tournament moves from the first round and into the second round for the men and women, including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
Roger Federer advanced in the first round with ease, rolling to a straight set victory against 76th-ranked Marinko Matosevic and it came with Michael Jordan in the stands. Federer is up at number two in the tournament since Rafael Nadal is not there and that means he will not have to play him at all and he will have a matchup with Novak Djokovic if both make it to the final.
Nadal will not be able to defend his title and now Federer looks like he has a real chance to make it. John Isner advanced as well along with Djokovic and Murray, while Serena Williams was matched up with Taylor Townsend and she made it through to the next round in straight sets. Federer will face a second straight Aussie when he plays against Sam Groth in the second round and he is a big serve guy and that could give Fed some trouble, but he should make it through fine.
Sam Querrey won to move along and Jack Sock ended up dropping out with an injury and now Isner and Sam are the top American men left and they will be looking to make nice runs here at the Open. The TV coverage comes from ESPN and the Tennis Channel and things have been starting up at 11 am on the TC and 1 pm on ESPN, while ESPN also has the evening coverage and any spillover coverage from the day sessions.
Williams made easy work of her first match and Sloane Stephens is now out after she was knocked out in the first round. Stephens has been struggling lately and here she did again and now she is done after winning her first match. Stephens broke out after a win against Serena Williams at the Australian Open, but she has not been able to duplicate that performance yet. Federer is looking very good and Williams is trying to defend her title and she is the only one that can with Nadal out of the tournament with a wrist injury.
