The Denver Broncos won over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night football in Week 1, as Peyton Manning held off a comeback from Andrew Luck late after previously tossing three touchdowns to Julius Thomas for a 31-24 victory to open the season.
The game was all Denver early as Manning carved up the Colts defense and while they were able to shut down Demaryius Thomas, Indianapolis could not stop Thomas the tight end. Thomas has had breakout games in the openers now on two straight seasons and Denver got off to a solid start for the season with a win over Indy.
Luck and the Colts came into the game as sleeper Super Bowl picks this season and this was the second matchup in as many years for Peyton and his old team. The Broncos have a matchup with the Seattle Seahawks looming in a couple weeks and they will have to travel to the Pacific Northwest for the game.
Denver had to play Sunday night without Wes Welker and that will continue over the next four weeks, as he was suspended for amphetamines.
