The Atlanta Hawks are embroiled in a scandal involving their owner and general manager Danny Ferry and amid all that the team is still working on basketball, as they have signed Elton Brand to a one year deal, bringing him back after playing with the team last season and now he will be a depth option for Al Horford on the roster and he had interest from other teams, including the Knicks and the Miami Heat.
According to Pro Basketball Talk, Brand signed for one year and $2 million on his contract and it will give the team a full roster for the time being, as they now have 15 players. Ferry and the team are dealing with a tough situation that was sparked after an owner triggered an investigation after comments made by Ferry regarding the African heritage of free agent Luol Deng during a conference call.
Crawford remains on the market and the Hawks could be an option for him, while the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and NY Knicks also could be in the mix. Crawford was traded from the Boston Celtics to the Golden State Warriors last season and he played above expectations for the Celtics, which is one reason why they looked to trade him and he ended up on the Warriors as a solid bench option.
The Hawks come into the offseason after winning 38 games last year and they had Al Horford lead the team in scoring, while Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap were tops in assists and rebounding. The Hawks have the chance to be a solid team in the east, but this offseason they are dealing with a scandal involving their current owner and GM regarding racist comments. Luol Deng got wrapped up in things, as the controversy began after Ferry read a scouting report in a conference call, making the derogatory remarks.
