Chelsea comes in after finishing third in the English Premier League last season and they now are in first place in the EPL coming into this match. The team has not dropped a point yet in the EPL this season and they will play against Schalke at home before a return trip later in November. Schalke has been off to a slow start this season in their league and the strong start from Chelsea should be enough at home to get a positive result here.
Chelsea may have Didier Drogba in the game against Schalke and that would be a big boost for the team, as they have a tough Group G and they should be able to pull out of it. Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal made it in by finishing from the top four of the EPL and the Gunners had to live through the playoffs before making it into the group stage. Chelsea knows this tournament and so does Drogba, as he helped the team win over Bayern a few years ago and now he will look to that for some inspiration.
Chelsea comes in having to deal with Schalke, Maribor and Sporting in Group G and this comes after the two teams matched up in the group stage last year. Chelsea won both those matches and they outscored Schalke 6-0 overall and now they come in playing very well. Jose Mourinho has won this tournament numerous times and he will be looking to get his Chelsea side off to a good start.
Chelsea is in action against Schalke while Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Maribor, Ajax, Paris Saint Germain and Roma are also on the schedule. The group stage will continue through the month and through the coming months until the end of the year before moving into the next stage of the draw. Arsenal lost to Borussia Dortmund to start, while Juventus won and so did Real Madrid and Liverpool to begin the group stage on Tuesday.
Chelsea comes in clean from the Premier League, as they have 12 points and four wins, not conceding a point and scoring 15 goals against only six. The team has a lead over Aston Villa and it's Swansea City, Southampton and Manchester City in the top five. Chelsea plays against Manchester City after this matchup and that is a big match and coming up they also have Manchester United as well as Arsenal and that means things will start getting tougher after the great start.
