The San Francisco Giants and LA Dodgers are playing live on the MLB schedule and the NL west matchup is from Dodger Stadium and starts up at 10:10 pm ET with Jake Peavy and Dan Haren on the mound as the playoffs get closer and the two teams are looking to get into their best postseason position.
Peavy has been very solid for the team since coming over in a trade with the Boston Red Sox and he has a sub 2.20 ERA and he will be facing off against Haren. The Giants are one of the wild card teams right now and they can basically lock that up with some wins in this series. Matt Kemp has been been getting hot as the season is coming to a close and the Dodgers have the offense and pitching to really do some damage in the playoffs and they will be looking to advance out of the first round this year.
The Giants are still alive for the division, but they basically need to sweep the series and have some luck to get ahead and the Dodgers come in with a 4.5 game lead. The Dodgers won over the Cubs in their last game and the Giants lost in San Diego and that gave the Padres a sweep and now San Fran has seven games left, while LA has six and half of them are against the Giants.
The Giants opened up the season with a double digit lead in the NL West division to start the season and then the Dodgers came back and took over and never really looked back. The Dodgers now have the advantage in the division and they are both likely to make the playoffs and this gives them a chance to battle ahead of the postseason. The Giants have Madison Bumgarner on the mound against Zack Greinke and that is a prime pitching duel for the teams.
The Dodgers ranked in the top 10 in runs, batting average and one base percentage and the pitching has been in the top 10 through the season as well. Clayton Kershaw likely will win the Cy Young and he could become the first player ever to lead the MLB in ERA four years in a row.
