Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Denies Robert Griffin III Drama After Trade Report, Jordan Reed, DeSean Jackson Return Helps as Alfred Morris Healthy Week 4

There has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of the Washington Redskins quarterback situation. With Robert Griffin III sitting out with injury and Kirk Cousins playing well in his spot, rumors have been circulating of what will happen in five to six weeks when the former first-round pick returns. Talk of making Cousins the permanent starter and benching or trading Griffin have certainly been tossed around in the past two weeks. However, Cousins is setting the record straight saying the Redskins are Griffin's team.

Cousins is the talk of the NFL right now. Despite getting the loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, the quarterback played well enough to make many people believe he is capable of being a full-time starter in the league. In two games this season, one stepping in during the first quarter and one as the starter, Cousins has put up 677 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception. By all accounts, those are better numbers than Griffin has been putting up over the past two seasons which has only increased speculation as to who is the quarterback of the future.

Cousins spoke with the media on Tuesday and made one things clear, "I won't change my statement that this is Robert's team." When Griffin went down with a dislocated ankle in Week 2, many wondered if Cousins was pining for the full-time job. He said the same thing then as he did on Tuesday which is that the Redskins are Griffin's team even while he sits out with injury. Cousins continues to say the right things to the media, trying to downplay any drama that is arising with his impressive numbers.

Head coach Jay Gruden is being a little less committal to the Redskins being Griffin's team. Gruden simply noted that he would continue to stick with the hot hand at quarterback and all positions throughout the season. If Cousins continues to play well then he stays in as starter. If Cousins starts to struggle after Griffin is declared healthy, then they put back in the original quarterback.

When the season is over, the Redskins will have to decide the best move to make for the future. It is clear Cousins can be a starter and teams have noticed. They could deal the backup in the offseason if Griffin shows signs of improvement, but if it is the other way around then Griffin could be demoted or dealt.
