The Los Angeles Lakers have two dominant big men.
Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
The have a Hall of Famer and without a doubt one of the best players to ever step foot in a basketball court.
Kobe Bryant.
Probably the most disliked figure in NBA, who changed his name in attempt to also change his reputation.
Metta World Peace.
They recently added the 2-time MVP, an assassin on the lane, who can find open players.
Steve Nash.
What is missing? A solid bench.
The Chicago Bulls parted ways with Guard/Forward Ronnie Brewer. The Lakers are rumored to have interest in the 27-year-old from Arkansas.
He was a mediocre contributor on offense, averaging just 6.9 points, 2.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 43 games started.
So why would the Lakers be interested in such a lackluster offensive player?
Ronnie Brewer averaged just over a steal per game. As a guard, he can provide the defense the Lakers seek in the backcourt.
One of the weaknesses of the Lakers since 2011, when the Dallas Mavericks routed them in the second round of the playoffs, was their inability to keep up with the smaller and agile point guards in the league.
First exploited by Chris Paul in the first round that year, the Lakers found themselves struggling to keep up on defense.
Brewer can be a defensive specialist coming off the bench. Nash is an amazing offensive player, but he is not regarded as one of the top defensive point guards in the league. Not to mention that he is entering 2013 as a 38-year-old.
It would be key for the Lakers to stack up on youth on their bench.
Steve Blake is 32 while Andrew Goudelock and Josh McRoberts are still developing their talents.
Ramon Sessions is out as free agent and it will be a good time for the Lakers to jump on Ronnie Brewer.
