Zack Greinke has five days of rest in his favor after finishing his last eight starts going 5-0 with a 2.34 ERA. His home record is 10-2 with a 2.55 ERA which will come in handy in this matchup. The Cardinals batting order have success off Greinke which could help the team get another comeback win. Matt Holliday is hitting 12 for 37 with two home runs. Matt Carpenter is 2 for 5 with a home run while hitting .375 in his last five playoff games. He has 13 postseason home runs to his name.
Lance Lynn takes the mound to maintain the lead in the series. The pitcher has a 15-10 record in the regular season with a 2.74 ERA. He is coming off his best regular season to date, but the Cardinals are not helping him out, giving the pitcher just six runs over 27 innings. In the postseason, Lynn is 5-4 with a 4.81 ERA, but in his last five starts, he is just 1 for 3 with a 5.56 ERA.
Greinke has plenty of postseason history as he tries to prevent an 0-2 hole for the Dodgers. He went 17-8 during the regular season with a 2.71 ERA. He had a strong postseason last year after struggling in 2011. He managed a 1-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in 2013 while opponents were hitting just .198 off the batter. Greinke does have good numbers against the Cardinals in the postseason with two wins over the team. However, St. Louis has been the team to eliminate them the past two years.
The St. Louis Cardinals got the upset win in Game 1 over the Los Angeles Dodgers after battling back for a 10-9 win despite Clayton Kershaw being on the mound. Now Los Angeles is playing from behind and hoping to even the series up on Saturday as Greinke takes the mound to face Lynn.
