English Premier League Transfer News: Michael Owen Says He Might Retire

Michael Owen revealed he is still looking for a club and hinted if the right offer does not come his way he might hang up his boots for good.

Owen had insisted in May he would not retire, despite being plagued by injury for the last few years. With several clubs wary of the 32-year-old injury record, Owen might be forced to go further down the ladder in English soccer.

"If a good opportunity doesn't come my way then so be it," Owen wrote on his Twitter account.

"I know I can still bang them in at the top level. I proved that nearly every time I played for Manchester United."

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle United striker, moved to Manchester United as a free agent in 2009, but failed to find any real game time, frequently hampered by injuries. He scored 9 goals in his first season at Old Trafford, including a memorable winner against arch-rivals Manchester City in a 4-3 victory.

His appearances were few and far between in the next two season, playing just one English Premier League game last season.

But Owen still believes he has it in him to perform at the highest level, saying dropping down a rung to the Championship would not be an option. "At 32, I've still got a few years in me," he said.

"At this stage of my career it has to be something that I'm going to enjoy doing.

"Not being disrespectful when I say I wouldn't play in the Championship. Always said I wouldn't drop down the leagues like some have done.

"After playing for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Man Utd and England, I don't think I would enjoy that."

Owen was heavily linked with a move to the Middle-East, but that fell through at the last minute. Stoke City and Everton have also been credited with an interest in signing the former England star.
