Team USA hammered the Dominican Republic's national team 113-59 in Las Vegas. The US Basketball team played their first of five exhibition games before the 2012 Olympics in London.
Calling this one a competition would be an exaggeration. The US team showed versatility and agility, but overall they showed their brute strength.
They gave it to the Dominicans on defense.
New York Knick fans and wise guys were tweeting last night about how surprised they were to see forward Carmelo Anthony play defense.
YEAH BABY!!! RT @Shekeymak: Is Carmelo really playing defense.
How pissed do Knicks fans have to be watching Carmelo playdefense in international play? #USABasketball
Carmelo only plays defense in the Olympics
Defense is not really a part of Melo's game, but he put a lot of defensive effort in this one even though it was not reflected on the stat sheet. He did, however, score the most points amongst the starters, dropping 13 on 3-6 shooting from the floor.
Kevin Durant led the way with 24 points, outscoring the 5 Dominican starters. He hit five consecutive threes before the half going 5/6 from beyond the arc.
In 22 minutes, Deron Williams had 10 assists as the US finished the night with a total of 27 dimes.
Andre Iguodala had 18 points and the newbie, Anthony Davis scored 9. He replaced the injured Blake Griffin in the lineup.
The next US game will be against Brazil on Monday, July 16th. It will be played in Washington D.C. at the Verizon Center.
