Jeremy Lin News: New York Knicks Fans Sign Petition to Keep Star from Joining Houston Rockets

New York Knick fans are being very vocal about watching their young point guard get taken away by the Houston Rockets.

New York loves Jeremy Lin so much that some fans started a petition with hopes of keeping him in the Knicks' roster. Fans really want to see Lin light up the Garden for years to come.

The creator of the petition "I Am Linsane" states the following:

Jeremy Lin is the best thing that has happened to New York Knicks basketball in the last 20 years. He has the largest fan base of any player in the NBA, by an order of magnitude.  He's got the personality and character that fans love.  He's the one player the New York Knicks need to keep, not lose.

So far, the petition has over 4,000 supporters.

However, the reality of the situation is that, despite how many people support the idea of Lin staying in New York, the decision will come down to finances.

If the Knicks keep Lin they will eventually surpass the cap in the latter part of his contract. If the team exceeds the cap then they will be penalized.

The Knicks paying over $40 million in Lin's contract and penalties combined.

Lin had a great 2011 campaign, there is no doubt about that. He could turn into the league's superstar and bring the city of New York a lot of revenue, but in the end, the team might end up paying more if they keep the point guard.

However, if Knicks fans still want to show their unconditional love for Jeremy Lin, the petition is available.
