West Ham Transfer News: Maiga Becomes Club's Fifth Signing

West Ham United have made their fifth signing of the summer after confirming the completion of a deal to bring striker Modibo Maiga to Upton Park.

Maiga, 24, who can play as centre forward or on the wing, has regularly linked with a move to English football. His two years at Sochaux he managed to score 24 goals in 59 Ligue 1 appearances.

The Mali international has joined Sam Allardyce's side for an undisclosed fee after signing a four-year deal with the option for a further two years.

"I am really happy and excited about joining West Ham United," Maiga told the club's official website. "I know West Ham are a big club in England and I'm really looking forward to representing them.

"They have a huge tradition and it is like joining part of a family and that is one of the main reasons I wanted to come here. I know some of the big names that have played for the club in the past and I am proud to be part of a new team back in the Premier League."

Maiga becomes the club's fifth signing this summer since the club won the Championship play-offs.

During the transfers West Ham has completed deals for Mohamed Diame, George McCartney, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson.
