Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall has been the subject of trade talk in fantasy football leagues for owners all over, as he has had a bit of a down season and with Chicago in a bye week, this could be when teams try to move him and in some Yahoo Sports, CBS and ESPN.com leagues, names like Andre Johnson, Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, Michael Floyd, Kendall Wright, Eddie Royal and Brandin Cooks have been packaged with draft picks in deals for Marshall.
As a Marshall owner, my team is not ready to give up on the Bears wide receiver, as he always has the potential to bust out big, but many owners have been frustrated by Marshall this season. Coming into the year, Marshall was looked at as a first or second round pick and one of the best WRs in the league in fantasy. While he still has that talent, the numbers have not been there this season and they have not been in line with what he usually does for fantasy owners.
Marshall has been one of the best fantasy players in the league over the last two seasons and that is why owners have been so disappointed with him. Marshall is not having a "bad year" but compared to the past two seasons he is not making the impact he previously had. This season he has 34 catches in eight games for just 384 yards and five TDs and this comes after the past two seasons he went for at least 100 balls and over 1200 yards in each year.
Last season Marshall had 100 catches for the second straight season and he added 12 touchdowns along with 1295 yards. Over the past two seasons he has scored 23 touchdowns, including in 2012 when he had a career best 118 catches for 1508 yards and 11 scores. Some owners may want to buy low on Marshall, as he could have a big second half following the bye week and that could be huge for teams heading into the playoffs.
Welker has not been putting up great numbers, but he has a high upside for the rest of the season and could be worth buying low as well. Andre Johnson has been passed over for DeAndre Hopkins a bit, but he could also be a strong pick up the rest of the way. Kendall Wright and Eddie Royal are on the lower end, but if draft picks are involved that could make the deals much more tempting. In keeper leagues Wright, Floyd and even Royal could be worthy options, as they likely were taken down in drafts compared to Marshall and Welker.
