The Denver Broncos are considering signing Richie Incognito to a free agent deal to help with their offensive line down the stretch of the 2014 season, as Fox Sports has reported that the team brought in the guard for a workout and could sign him this week to a deal, as they are ranked near the bottom of the league in rushing.
According to Fox Sports and ESPN.com, the Broncos brought in Incognito for a workout this past week and they have done their due diligence on the guard, calling around the league to his former teams. Incognito was in trouble last year and was later allowed to have his contract expire by the Dolphins after the bullying incidents regarding Jonathan Martin. The situation was top news in the NFL for a while and basically put Incognito on a black list, but clearly that is starting to fade.
Jay Glazer reported that the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers considered Incognito this season, but both teams opted not to sign him. Incognito is a free agent after he was suspended by the Dolphins and not re-signed and now the Broncos have a decision to make on the guard. Glazer reports that Incognito has been working out in Arizona and he has not been with another team since the Dolphins let him go. Glazer also writes that Broncos coaches have worked with Incognito before when he was in the Pro Bowl.
The Broncos rank in the bottom part of the league in rushing and they have been forced to move players around on the offensive line due to injuries and other issues. The Broncos are 7-2 on the season, but they would like a boost on the OL and it comes after the team had to make some maneuvers against the Raiders this past week. As Fox reported, the team moved their center to another position and also shifted guards and tackles, putting three new starters on the line in Week 11.
The Broncos are second in the NFL in passing this season, but they are 26th in rushing yards per game with just under 100 per contest. The Broncos have not given up a ton of sacks this season, but that is more about Peyton Manning and the way he plays rather than the O-line. Incognito has now been off an NFL roster for months and some think that he deserves another chance to see if he can be a good citizen in the league. The Broncos may be the team to give him that, as they see him as someone that can help them.
