The Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs are playing on the NHL season schedule on Friday night and the matchup is from the Air Canada Centre as Sidney Crosby travels up north and the game starts up at 7:30 pm ET and has the top team in the east coming in against a streaking Leafs side and this is a prime matchup in hockey.
The Penguins come into the game after a bad loss against the NY Rangers and that snapped a winning streak for the Pens and they now are first in the Metro division. The team is 10-3-1 this season and they have 21 points, while Toronto has 20 points with a 9-5-0 record and they are looking to bounce back after the tough loss. The Penguins come in at first in the league in scoring with nearly four goals per game and they are also first in power play percentage.
The Pens have been the most consistent team in the league this season and they are eighth in goals against and fourth in penalty kill percentage. The team will finish out their home and home against the Rangers with a Pitt matchup against NY and that will be on Saturday after this matchup. Rick Nash continued his hot start with a goal and two assists against the Penguins to snap the winning streak and now they hope to start up another one.
Crosby has been off to a strong start as well this season and he had five assists in the crazy game against the Sabres and he has 24 points and 17 assists this season. Crosby came through with a shootout goal for the win in the game before that and now the team is looking to start off a new winning streak. The Penguins just signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to an extension and he is now in for four years and $23 million.
The Maple Leafs come into the game at third in the Atlantic division and they just had a great win over the Bruins. The Maple Leafs have been streaking and they will next play against the lowly Sabres and they are now third in the league in scoring this season. The team saw Phil Kessel score twice against his old team and he is having a very solid season and they are ranked in the top five in power play percentage and 11th in penalty kill percentage this season. Kessel is leading the team in goals, assists and points for the start of the season.
