In the two minutes left in the match, Sweden came close to capturing the victory with last minute attacks at Japan's goal. Marie Hammarstrom kicked a ball that was saved by Japan's goalkeeper, Miho Fukumoto.
Antonia Goransson took a shot at the goal with a minute left in competition, but missed the target.
Both Sweden and Japan will remain in first place in their division even though they tied. Both Canada and South Africa lost in their first game, thus sitting in last place in the Group F pool of Women's soccer.
