The Los Angeles Lakers have made impressive moves this off-season to solidify themselves as contenders heading into the 2012-13 NBA season. As of now they continue to look for valuable pieces to add to their bench.
Here's a list of a few contributors the Lakers may be eyeing.
Kenyon Martin, Power Forward:
Martin is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and though he's not the Martin of a few years back, he still can provide some support in the backup role. Martin will bring energy, toughness and defense to the Lakers bench and even has the potential to contribute on the offensive side of the ball.
The Lakers probably will be able to get him for the veteran minimum and that's exactly what the Lakers would be looking for.
Brandon Rush, Shooting Guard:
The Lakers have been long searching for a suitable backup to Kobe Bryant to come off the bench, they may have that option in Rush.
The problem with Rush is that he is one-dimensional.
Rush is known more for his shooting as he excels from three-point range, but was one of the worst defenders on a poor defensive Golden State Warriors team in 2011-12.
Even though the Lakers have brought Rush in for workout's in July, the Warriors are adamant in matching any offer that Rush may receive.
Jonny Flynn, Point Guard:
With their starting point guard problems solved with Steve Nash, the backup role remains questionable with only Steve Blake and Darius Morris on the roster.
This leaves Flynn to be an option.
Flynn, once considered a top point guard prospect, has been a disappointment since entering the league in 2009. He's an average point guard at best, but his defense remains suspect.
At least with Flynn, the Lakers may get lucky and he will turn out to fit in with the rest of the supporting cast, being that he has the speed to defend the league's top point guards.
Adding in how he performed last season to the equation, the Lakers should definitely be able to get him for the much needed veteran minimum.
