Andy Murray, Great Britain's hometown favorite, will take Centre Court today following Venus Wiliiam's victory Tuesday morning. He will face Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in the second round of action today at Wimbledon and there is currently a delay due to inclement weather.
As we all remember, Murray had the opportunity of being the first tennis player of Great Britain to capture the first Wimbledon title since 1936.
With that behind him, Murray has arrived back at Wimbledon eyeing the gold.
On Sunday, he played Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka and purely dominated both sets 6-3, 6-3 to take the first match in the first round of the 2012.
Nieminen advanced to the second round after defeated India's Somdev Devvarman in two sets 6-3, 6-1. Nieminen played almost flawless tennis. He finished the match with only two unforced errors.
Murray comes in as the favorite to win the match. Nieminen has been playing for more years than Murray, but the Scot has had more success in a shorter period of time as a pro.
Niemenin went pro in 2002, currently has 11 years playing the sport as a professional. He has been to the Quarterfinals three times in his career; 2005 U.S. Open, 2006 Wimbledon and 2009 at the Australian Open.
Murray on the other hand, has moved on to at least the quarters in his last seven Grand Slam tournaments.
Case closed. Murray should win this one.
