This off-season the Los Angeles Lakers have made great improvements with signing guard Steve Nash and forward Antawn Jamison, but they still are in need of a reliable back-up to Kobe Bryant at shooting guard.
There have been many names rumored to be possible candidates for that role, but 24-year-old Jodie Meeks may be one of the best options for the Lakers after expressing mutual interest in each other.
According to an interview with Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com, Meeks has narrowed his options down to three teams:
"I've gotten interest from the Lakers, Bucks and Wizards," Meeks told HOOPSWORLD. "There are five or six teams, but those three are at the forefront right now because I've been talking to them the most. I really like those teams and I like what they bring to the table. I'm looking forward to signing, whenever that may be."
The Lakers convinced Meeks to fly out to L.A. and they appear that they may be willing to sign the young guard for a mini mid-level of $3 million, but have halted on doing so as they wait to see how the Dwight Howard trade situation unfolds.
Without a question the Lakers will obviously be the best chance Meeks will have at getting a title. On the other hand however, the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards can offer Meeks a considerably larger paycheck.
Also add that if Meeks does decide on a team besides the Lakers he will most likely have a shot at a starting position.
As of now the relationship between the Lakers and Meeks appear to be in good standings. It's still some time until the season, so we would just have to wait and see what comes next.
