The NY Giants may fire Tom Coughlin after this season, but many see that as misguided, as the team has dealt with a ton of injuries and with Odell Beckham, Victor Cruz and Ruebn Randle set to play together next season, the future is bring for Eli Manning on offense and New York could have a bounce back year in 2015 with Ben McAdoo calling the shots.
The Giants snapped a long losing streak this weekend on the road in Tennessee and they have a decent schedule to finish the season with the Rams, Redskins and Eagles. If the giants win out or win at least three of their final four games, it could be enough to convince John Mara to keep Coughlin for another season. Coughlin has been with NY for many years and this season was not what anyone expected, but changing the head coach may not help that.
The roster had many holes this season and the team dealt with a ridiculous amount of injuries and all this came as they installed a new offense. Getting rid of Coughlin doesn't help those problems and some would argue they only make them more glaring. Keeping Coughlin would keep consistency as the new offense takes hold into next season and with Odell Beckham, Andre Williams and Devon Kennard all looking like solid picks, Jerry Reese may have saved his job as well.
Beckham has emerged as a star and if he can lineup alongside Victor Cruz for a full season, the Giants offense could be one of the best in the league. The same goes for the rushing game, as Rashad Jennings missed half the season and that put the team in a very tough spot. Williams has been solid for the tea, but he was not ready to be the feature back and that hurt Eli Manning in the offense. Coughlin will be gone soon enough because of his age, but right now with so much transition with free agents and the new offense, changing coaches now could be a detriment to progress.
Having Beckham and Cruz together for a season could be exactly what the Giants need and another year of development for McAdoo and the offense is big as well. The Giants know that in the NFL teams can bounce back quickly and they are hoping to do that after missing the playoffs each year since the team won the Super Bowl. The team has missed the playoffs for three straight seasons and that could be what does Coughlin in, although true Giants fans know he should stay.
The Giants finish this season with two games at home and one on the road and it starts with the Redskins this weekend. A loss here to a 3-10 team at home that the Giants blew out earlier in the season would be an embarrassment and it also would not help Coughlin's chances of staying. Sadly, if the Giants lose this game Coughlin is all but gone and the final two games would have to be, absolutely have to be wins for him to stay. The Giants can play spoiler for the Eagles in Week 17 and the game before that against the Rams is also a tough test.
