Olympics 2012 Soccer Results: Great Britain Defeats Uruguay 1-0, Plays South Korea in Semis

Great Britain defeated Uruguay 1-0 on Wednesday and they are ready to move on to the Men's Soccer Semifinals taking place on Wednesday.

The lone goal in this intense match came in extra time of the first period when Daniel Sturridge scored for Great Britain.

Both teams had six shots on goal and Uruguay had more opportunities of scoring as they took 20 shots in total.

Although Uruguay took more shots, Great Britain controlled the tempo as they had possession of the ball 65 percent of the time.

There were a total of 25 fouls committed in the match as the game was very physical. Uruguay committed 13 of them while picking up five yellow cards. Great Britain only had two players yellow carded.

For Uruguay, their hopes of Olympic gold have extinguished with the loss. Great Britain finishes in first place with a 2-0-1 record and 7 points in three matches played as Senegal tied versus UA Emirates.

Great Britain will play against South Korea on Saturday in the first game of the semifinals.

S. Korea racked up five points in their three matches after going 1-0-2 in the preliminary rounds.

With Spain not qualifying for Olympic gold, the doors are open for a new soccer champion at London.
