Liverpool and Swansea City are playing live on the English Premier League schedule on Monday and the match from Anfield starts on the NBC Sports Network and NBCSN Live Extra website at 3 pm ET and 8 pm local time as the Reds finish the EPL week and they will be looking to move up on the Barclays table standings for Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool comes in after a win away against Burnley and they are 10th in the league on the table heading into Monday. Liverpool pulled a draw with Arsenal before the matchup with Burnley and before that they lost at Old Trafford 3-0 against Manchester United. Liverpool will be without Brad Jones at goalkeeper with a thigh injury and Simon Mignolet will come in for him. Fabio Borini will be back after a suspension, while Dejan Lovren, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan will be out of action.
Liverpool pulled three points against Burnley on Boxing Day and now they have Swansea, Leicester, Sunderland and Aston Villa and they have back to back home matches in that stretch. Once Daniel Sturridge comes back the team should be in better shape and while they have been off to a very slow start, Rodgers feels they can move up the table. Swansea has won back to back games after losing two in a row and they got a win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Wilfried Bony has been playing well and he has scored eight times in the past 12 games and that has put the team in solid position. Rodgers thinks that Liverpool still has a shot in the top four despite the slow start and it comes after the team came in second on the EPL table last year. The team has not been scoring quite as much as last season and Mario Balotelli still needs time to make an impact.
Liverpool has won over Swansea five straight times overall and they have won the last two at home in EPL play. The Reds are ready for this matchup and it comes as Swansea has not won at Anfield in 13 tries in league play. Liverpool won over Swansea at Anfield in a League Cup match and now they are looking to get another home win, which would give them four for the season. The team had over 20 points from home games last season over the first nine, but this year they have only taken 13 and they need to do better.
Liverpool has won just one of the last five home games with three draws and one loss and they will be looking for Raheem Sterling to step up, as he has been hot with three goals in the last three games. Swansea has won two games away and now they are looking to upset Liverpool on the road. After playing against Swansea, Liverpool will have the FA Cup and then matchups against Sunderland, Aston Villa, west Ham and Everton before playing Tottenham.
