The Men's Soccer semifinals are a couple of days away, but the matchups are already set for both showdowns taking place on Tuesday. Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Brazil will be on the court competing for the opportunity to win the gold medal in the London 2012 Olympics.
Here are the brackets, matchups and times for Tuesday's meetings between these four Men's Soccer national teams.
Mexico vs. Japan
Tuesday August, 7th - 12 p.m. ET/5p.m. GMT
Mexico had to prove it was worthy of competition as the team was challenged by Senegal in the quarterfinals. The match went into extra time and Mexico wound up with the 4-2 victory after goals in the extra period of time. They led early in the game, but Senegal's offensive attack pressured Mexico's defense heavily. They answered with goals in the latter end of the 2nd half, eventually pushing the match pushing Mexico to the brink.
Japan had an offensive explosion in the quarterfinals against Egypt scoring three goals in the match and shutting out the Egyptians. Their tight defense did not allow any goals as Japan cruised to victory.
Brazil vs. Korea (South)
Tuesday August 7th- 2:45 p.m. ET/7:45 p.m. GMT
Brazil is the heavy favorite to win the gold medal and they proved worthy of the title after defeating Honduras in a very tight game. For the fourth time in the 2012 Olympics, Brazil scored three goals. This match was intense as both teams traded punches, eventually Brazil finished the game with a one-two punch in the begin portion of the second half after being down 2-1. With a penalty kick from Neymar and a goal from Damiao Leandro nine minutes later, the Brazilian team was able to claim the victory.
Speaking of intense matches, Great Britain suffered an upset against South Korea as they lost the 1-1 game in penalty shots that finished with the Korean's outscoring the Brits in the shootout. Korea finished in second place of Group B and they were not expect to contend against a team like Great Britain. Now, for the Koreans, they will patiently wait to face a tougher team in Brazil.
After Great Britain's elimination, Brazil stands as the favorite team to win the gold medal.
