Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings win gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games in beach volleyball against fellow Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross.

In the first set neither team was able to pull away early as Kessy and Ross kept up with the 2008 gold medalist to set up a 13-13 tie.

May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennings eventually were able to pull away for a 21-16 victory in the opening set, with May-Treanor doing the honors of spiking back a serve on the second match point to give the veteran team a victory, bringing them one set away from Olympic gold.

The matched remained close in the second set, with both teams tied at 11 before the defending gold medalist opened up for a significant lead.

Kessy and Ross managed to rally within one point, but their efforts were not enough to thwart May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennigs on their road to the record books.

This third consecutive gold medal extends not only their reign over women's beach volleyball, but also the U.S. domination of the sport. Since it became an Olympic sport in 1996, Americans have won six of nine gold medals awarded in beach volleyball.

May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennings will go down in the record books as two of the sports' most decorated athletes of all-time.
