The NY Knicks are in the middle of a terrible season and heading into the trade deadline, names like Pablo Prigioni, Jose Calderon, Andrea Bargnani and Amar'e Stoudemire are all potential targets for teams and this comes as the Knicks and Phil Jackson plan on targeting Reggie Jackson, Marc Gasol and Goran Dragic in free agency to join Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks won against the 76ers on Wednesday, but they are still in line to be the worst team in the league and could continue making trades. The team already moved JR Smith and Iman Shumpert and now they could be poised to make other moves. According to Pro Basketball Talk, Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv reports that the team is shopping Pablo Prigioni and would take a second round pick for him. Zagoria writes that the Knicks are willing to move him since he "not playing" and not "part of the future".
The Knicks reportedly are also shopping Jose Calderon and Bargnani, while Stoudemire could be a candidate for a buyout. Nothing is imminent, but if the team can't trade Amar'e at the deadline, they may waive him so he can sign with a contender, as he is on an expiring deal.
The NY Knicks signed Carmelo Anthony this offseason and they hoped that they could pout together a decent team while waiting for 2015 free agency. Clearly it did not go that well and now that Smith and Shumpert have been traded, the team could consider moves with Shane Larkin, Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani as well as Tim Hardaway as the deadline gets closer. Teams like the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers could be interested in dealing and the Knicks are hoping to get future assets.
Phil Jackson has already made multiple moves this year and his biggest trade was moving Tyson Chandler and the horrible Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks got a solid point guard in Calderon and a trading chip in Larkin and now it looks like Jackson is preparing to make more moves. ESPN.com reports that Hardaway is considered "least likely" to move in trade talks for the Knicks and Bargnani could be the one to move, has not lived up to his billing since getting traded to the Knicks. Jackson has a five year plan with Derek Fisher to build around Carmelo Anthony after he signed a five year deal as well, but so far it's been off to a slow start.
Earlier in the offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers were mentioned as an option for the Knicks in a deal for Stoudemire. The Knicks expect to be active in trades this season in an attempt to clear cap space and that would set them up for next summer in free agency for players like Jackson. The NY Post reported that the Knicks were interested in signing Marc Gasol if he hits market next offseason and the team also likes Kevin Love, but his future is unclear right now with him in Cleveland.
The Knicks missed the playoffs last season after starting 3-13 and now they are just 7-23 in the 2014-15 campaign and things aren't expected to get better until at least next season.
