Three days after a disappointing and controversial loss to the United States in the semifinals of the women's football tournament, Canada will look to regroup and earn a bronze medal on Thursday with a win over France in the bronze medal match at City of Coventry Stadium, home of League One side Coventry City. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. local time, 8 a.m. ET in the United States.
The match will be broadcast live in the U.S. on the NBC Sports Network and streamed live at NBCOlympics.com. Viewers watching the online stream will have their choice of a video stream without commentary or the NBCSN simulcast.
Canada and France did not meet during group play at these Olympic Games, but have faced three common opponents during the tournament: Japan, Sweden and the United States. Both countries lost 2-1 decisions to Japan, with Canada's coming in the first game of the tournament and France's coming on Monday in the tournament semifinals. Sweden played the Canadians to a 2-2 draw in the group stage, while France was able to best Sweden by a 2-1 margin in the semifinals. Finally, as opposed to Monday's U.S.-Canada match, which required overtime after a controversial call by the official, the U.S. soundly defeated France to begin the Olympic tournament, bouncing back from an early 2-0 deficit to score a 4-2 win over the French.
Canada boasts the leading goal-scorer in the tournament in Christine Sinclair, who scored a hat trick on Monday and has six goals in five games. Melissa Tancredi has four goals in the Olympics, while France has a pair of two-goal scorers in Marie-Laure Delie and Laura Georges.
