NY Jets Rumors: Percy Harvin Released as Demaryius Thomas, Jeremy Maclin, Mike Wallace Signed? DeMarco Murray, Marshawn Lynch, CJ Spiller Replace Chris Johnson

The New York Jets have plenty of roster moves to worry about outside of their quarterback position. While everyone stays focused on the potential replacement coming in for Geno Smith, other playmakers are seeing their futures put in doubt after the hire of Todd Bowles. The Jets have a lot of holes to fill on the field, which means high-priced salaries are likely let do. What does this mean for players like Percy Harvin and Chris Johnson?

Harvin is currently sitting back and rooting or his former team the Seattle Seahawks. If they win the Super Bowl he has plenty of big money headed his way. However, right now the Jets are determining if Harvin is worth keeping on the pay roll as they aim to make salary adjustments. Harvin was a mid-season trade costing New York next to nothing in return. He is set to be paid $10 million as a base salary in 2015 which is a lot to pay the receiver and the Jets are weighing their options.

According to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta, Harvin has no intentions of taking a pay cut which could cause him to be released. However, Smith told the media via NJ.com that he wants Harvin back with the team because of his playmaking abilities. The Jets have free agent options they can chase which might make Harvin expendable.

"Man, I love playing with him," Smith said, via NJ.com. "He's an explosive, explosive player. He gives us an added dimension in so many areas. I don't know what the decision making will be, but I would love to have him back."

The Jets could easily eye players like Mike Wallace, Demaryius Thomas or Jeremy Maclin in free agency. Most of those receivers will command top dollar deals, but they would at least be more consistent then Harvin who has battled his share of injuries during his career.

There is also the task of replacing Chris Johnson who was barely seen in the run game last season. Johnson was arrested on weapons charges and can expect to be released from the team. New York needs a strong run game to keep things balanced and would be wise to take a look at players like DeMarco Murray, Mark Ingram or CJ Spiller in the offseason.
