The time has arrived for USA to defend its 2008 gold medal. They will face a recognizable foe in Japan beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET/ 7:45 GMT at Wembley Stadium in London.
The U.S. team has dominated Olympic competition, winning four medals, (three gold and one silver) in its 16 years of existence. Japan has never been to the Finals, but had an impressive win over the U.S. in the Women's 2011 World Cup in Germany, which devasted Team USA.
For Hope Solo and the U.S. it is a chance to avenge their 2011 loss, while also serving as a defense of the gold medal they own. On the other side of the dime, it can be a chance for the Japanese team to cement themselves as the best team in the world and the best team to compete in the Women's Football Olympic event for Japan.
The prediction from Sports Illustrated was that the U.S. was going to win this match with Japan taking the silver.
We will have to wait until the end results to see if the U.S. has what it takes. Japan is known for their suffocating defense, while the U.S can light up a scoreboard out of nowhere, as witness by the French team in the first game of the qualifiers.
Do not miss the action as the U.S. soccer team attempts to repeat as Olympic gold medalists.
