Olympics 2012 Men's Beach Volleyball Results: Germany Wins Gold, Brazil Takes Silver

Jonas Reckermann and Julius Brink of Germany took the gold medal in the Men's Beach Volleyball Final at the 2012 London Olympics after defeating the Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego in three well played sets. The final score was 23-21, 16-21, 16-14 on behalf of Germany.

Reckermann finished the match with 5 blocks and 4 digs, while Brink had 14 digs. 

The Brazilians and Germans played a very tight match. Germany took the first set 23-21, then saw Brazil's duo tight match a one set a piece. 

In the third set Brazil took the lead 2-0 lead on a beautiful ball hit off of Rego's palm. The Germans then took a 3-2 lead and built a two point lead. They held on to their two point lead as the score was 10-8. Reckermann and Brink gained a 4-point lead as Brazil could not capitalize on their opportunities. 

Germany led 13-9 and Rego and Cerutti did not give up. They scored two consecutive points, shrinking the four-point advantage just to two.

They tied the game at 14 after a timeout on an ace by Rego for his first ace of the match. Brink got a block give them a 15-14 lead for match point. Rego spiked the ball out of bounds giving the Germans the final point and the victory.

Brazilian fans were shocked, meanwhile Rego and Cerutti did not believe the ball was out of bounds and they kept discussing the call with the umpire after the game was over.

The Germans took the gold, the Brazilians took the silver and Latvia finished with the bronze.
