Arsenal Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Asks Robin Van Persie to Come to United; Barca Youngster Linked with Gunners Move

With Manchester United seemingly the only real suitors for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, calls for the Red Devils to bring in the prolific Dutchman have already started.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed his interest in the 29-year-old, but said Arsenal were reluctant to sell their prized asset to their arch-rivals. However, that has not stopped United's main man Wayne Rooney to put his weight behind Van Persie's potential signing.

"Of course he's a player that I admire," Rooney is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. "He's a fantastic player.

"He's been amazing for Arsenal over many years. Last season was probably his best season of all. He scored a lot of goals.

"If he does come here he would be a great addition to the squad."

Rooney believes he can form a very formidable partnership with last year's top scorer in the Premier League. "There's a lot of forwards here already with myself, Welbeck, Chicharito and Berba still here. There's a lot of forwards fighting for a place.

"I'd like to think so (playing with Van Persie), but you'd have to ask the manager about that."

Arsenal target M'Baye Niang could be on his way to AC Milan after the teenager said he was impressed by the facilities at the Italian club. "I was so impressed, it's magnificent," he said.

"I am really interested in Milan."

Niang's club Caen have turned down a bid from Arsenal already. With several youngsters already coming up the Arsenal ranks, Arsene Wenger is reluctant to increase the offer for a largely unproven 17-year-old, and might just decide to move on.

Arsenal are now being linked with Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello in the Spanish press, with the 20-year-old forward being mooted as a possible makeweight in a deal for Alex Song, who is still very much interesting the Catalan club.

Meanwhile Mikel Arteta believes his Spanish compatriot will make a big impact at Arsenal and the English Premier League. "Technically he is very gifted, he can play wide in both positions and through the middle as well," Arteta told the club's official website.

"He is tricky and has two good feet -- in fact I could not say whether he is right or left-footed. He will bring us good experience and something different. He will be a good addition to the team.

"I am convinced he will (make a big impact). The way that we play at Arsenal really suits his qualities and hopefully he will be very successful."

Arteta, who himself impressed in Arsenal colors after making a deadline day move from Everton last summer, is also impressed with how quickly the Gunners' other new signings, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, have adapted to life at the Emirates. "They are looking good in training and getting on really well with the other players. They're confident and making jokes," he said.

"The [training camp in Germany] is good because we all spend time together and you get a relationship with your team-mates, which is very important when you go on to the field.

"They are very comfortable, this is an easy group. They are nice lads and we are all trying to help them."
