Arsenal Transfer News: 'Concrete' Bid Received for M'Vila; Mexes-Bendtner Swap Deal Mooted as Arsene Wenger Says Robin Van Persie Will Stay

Long-time Arsenal target Yann M'Vila has received an offer from an English club, according to Rennes, while the Gunners are being linked with a move for French defender Philippe Mexes.

Arsenal have been reportedly interested in signing the combative midfielder for nearly a year now, but Arsene Wenger recently dropped his interest in M'Vila after being put off by his perceived lack of discipline.

Andre Villas-Boas and Tottenham Hotspur have also been recently linked heavily with M'Vila as Spurs look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

Speaking after Rennes' opening game of the league season against Lyon, which M'Vila played the entire duration, club chairman Frederic de Saint-Serni admitted they had received an offer.

"He has a concrete offer from England," Saint-Serni told Canal+, but refused the reveal the club.

According to Talksport, Mexes could move to Arsenal as part of a swap deal involving Nicklas Bendtner moving to AC Milan. The French international defender is reportedly open to a move to the English Premier League, but it waits to be seen whether Wenger will give the go-ahead to the move, seeing as Arsenal already have five senior central defenders, although Sebastian Squilacci is expected to move on.

Bendtner has been pining for a move for a couple of years now, with Wenger also recently confirming the Danish international's imminent departure.

Wenger reiterated his stance on keeping Robin Van Persie at the Emirates at all costs. Speaking after the Gunners' 4-0 win over FC Cologne, where new striker Lukas Podolski netted a brace, the French manager revealed there was absolutely no change In the Van Persie situation.

"There's no news on van Persie," Wenger told the Sun. "Our fans want him to stay so you can understand they are excited. Anything I could say about van Persie would be a lie because he's our player and that's it.

"Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best player. He was player of the year in England. We want to keep him. I cannot tell you more at the moment because I don't know more.

"We have not bought the players to replace van Persie, but to strengthen our squad with the thinking van Persie will stay. That's still my mind at the moment."

Van Persie received a muted response from the travelling Arsenal fans, after coming on for Podolski in the 69th minute; the Dutchman also took over the captain's armband from Thomas Vermaelen.

Podolski, who was, unlike Van Persie, resoundingly cheered on by the fans, was happy with his two-goal effort in his first game for Arsenal. "First match and first goals. I was very surprised by the reaction of the Arsenal fans. I heard them chanting my name and it was crazy.

"I have felt part of Arsenal from the first day; to score in my first match was great. I need another two weeks to be fully ready," Podolski said.

Meanwhile, youngster Ryo Miyaichi is close to sealing a loan move to Wigan Athletic. The Japanese winger is still learning his trade on the biggest stage, and Wenger wants his education to continue further, by moving to another English Premier League club, where he will get more first-team action, and sees Wigan manager Roberto Martinez as the perfect man to help the youngster develop his game.
