Just when the New York Knicks looked like they could be stringing together some wins, the team takes several steps back once again. Fresh off a loss to the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks are 5-5 in their last ten games while sitting on a two-game losing streak. Things are not going to get any easier as the Golden State Warriors come to town looking to avenge their loss to the Atlanta Falcons which dropped them to No. 2 overall in the league.
The meeting between the Knicks and Warriors is a look at what could have been for New York. When the team was searching for a new head coach, team president Phil Jackson pushed heavily to acquire Steve Kerr since the two worked well together back with the Chicago Bulls. However, Kerr ended up accepting a job with Golden State and the Knicks went with Derek Fisher, an experiment that might not be working out so well.
The Knicks are currently tied for the worst record in the NBA while dealing with ongoing injuries to Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani. Following the loss to Brooklyn, Anthony told reporters that he was uncertain if he will be able to play in the game against Golden State claiming knee soreness was continuing to creep up. However, Stoudemire is expected to play after getting into the game against the Nets for the first time since mid-January. However, he is expected to sit the second-half of back-to-back games.
Golden State is coming off a loss to the Atlanta Hawks making them the No. 2 team in the league in terms of record. The Warriors traveled to Atlanta and were upset on the road as the Hawks continue to shock the league. The duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson still managed to do their thing as they combined for 55 points. However, their defense gave up 72 points in the second-half allowing Atlanta to have 10 players in double-digit figures. Golden State should not have issues with the Knicks, but must improve the defense going forward.
