EPL Transfer News: Daniel Agger Prefers Liverpool Stay; Martin Skrtel Close to Agreeing New Contract

Daniel Agger wants to stay with Liverpool, but admits the situation is out of his hands, while central defensive partner Martin Skrtel is reportedly closing in on signing a new contract with the Reds.

Agger has been a subject of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester City and Barcelona. The classy defender had a stellar campaign last season, catching the eye of several clubs, with City reportedly showing the keenest interest.

It is understood, Liverpool have already turned down two bids from the English Premier League champions and is holding out for at least £25 million ($39 million). Brendan Rodgers has admitted the player could be sold if the right offer came in for the 27-year-old, who has been at Anfield since 2006.

Manchester City are reportedly readying a third bid with Roberto Mancini prioritising the signing of a central defender this summer.

Agger, who is away on international duty with Denmark ahead of the friendly against Slovenia, said he is completely unaware of any interest in his services and is happy to remain at Anfield. "No, I haven't heard anything," Agger told Ekstra Bladet.

"That is how the club wants to do it. I would prefer to stay.

"I can't imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me."

Agger recently inked a tattoo on his knuckles, with the initials of Liverpool's song 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but insisted it has nothing to do with the uncertain situation surrounding his future.

"It has nothing to do with my current situation," Agger said. "It is a gesture towards the Kop, towards Liverpool and towards the people around the club."

Meanwhile, Skrtel is close to agreeing a new contract, according to Sky Sports. Skrtel's future has also been up for debate, with interest across Europe for the 27-year-old. However, Rodgers sees the Slovakian international as a key part in his plans for the club's future and has moved quickly to secure his long-term future.

Luis Suarez recently signed a new contract with Liverpool and Skrtel, who was named last year's player of the year at Liverpool, could soon follow in securing his future.
