The OKC Thunder may look at a Reggie Jackson trade at the NBA trading deadline this season and teams like the NY Knicks, Miami Heat, LA Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics could be interested in making a move for the point guard, as he is just 24-years-old and looking to start.
The Thunder have been shopping Jackson and listening to offers the past two months, as he is headed for restricted free agency and they are not expected to sign him back. According to ESPN.com, Marc Stein reports that the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets are interested in making a deal for Jackson, while the Lakers and Rockets also could be potential options. Jackson wants to be a starting guard and that is not happening in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook there.
Jackson will be a restricted free agent this summer and the New York Daily News reports that the Knicks could go after him if they miss out on Goran Dragic. Jackson is young and has potential to develop, but right now in OKC he is not getting enough playing time. The trade for Dion Waiters has pushed Jackson back in the rotation a bit and that makes it even more likely that Oklahoma City will trade him. Jackson is averaging 12 points per game this season and he comes in after averaging a career high 13 points last season in 28 minutes per game.
The Boston College product showed that he could be a starting guard after stepping in for Westbrook over the last two season while he was injured. According to the Miami Herald, the Heat are interested in Jackson and Goran Dragic on the trade market and they could look at moving Norris Cole or Mario Chalmers if they make a deal. Miami has struggled overall on offense this season and they could look at adding one of the two guards at the deadline.
Dragic is heading towards free agency and the Suns have been entertaining the idea of trading him, but they want at least a first round pick to get it done. The Suns have Dragic along with Eric Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas and Tyler Ennis in the backcourt and they could look at moving at least one of those players. The Lakers are interested in Dragic and reportedly will offer him a max contract this summer if he hits free agency. Dragic is coming off of a most improved player award and is considered to be the top point guard target.
The Denver Nuggets are interested in trading for Jackson, as they explored a deal earlier in the season with the Thunder, but it was not agreed on. Frank Isola reported the interest from the Nuggets in Jackson and it comes as Denver could be willing to deal Kenneth Faried, Ty Lawson or Wilson Chandler at the trading deadline. The Thunder started the season without Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook due to injuries and they could end up missing the playoffs without a strong run down the second stretch of the season in the western conference.
