Bolton Transfer News: Fabrice Muamba Retires, Video of March 17 Collapse

The Bolton Wanders' midfielder, Fabrice Muamba announced his retirement after suffering a heart attack on field against the Tottenham Spurs back in March.

Doctors advised the 24-year-old to seek retirement for health reasons and the team posted a statement on their official website saying Muamba would retire from the game after attempting to make a comeback.

"Since suffering my heart attack and being discharged from hospital, I have remained utterly positive in the belief I could one day resume my playing career and play for Bolton Wanderers once again. As part of my on-going recovery, last week I travelled to Belgium to seek further medical advice from a leading cardiologist. But the news I received was obviously not what I had hoped it would be and it means I am now announcing my retirement from professional football," said Muamba in the statement.

Muamba thanked the medical team that brought him back to life after he collapsed in the 41st minute of the match. At first, fans and announcers were unsure of the seriousness of the incident. He collapsed on the field with nobody around him.

This was the scene at the game and Muamba could originally be seen lying on the floor in the middle of his cardiac arrest.

This was the image of Muamba being carried off the field.
