San Francisco Giants Rumors 2012: Jeff Francoeur Drawing Interests From Team?

With Melky Cabrera's departure from baseball for a period of 50 games, the playoff seeking San Francisco Giants are in dire need of help in the outfield. Jeff Francoeur of the Kansas City Royals becomes a player in the scopes of the Giants.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports mentioned that Francoeur would be owed over $6 million in the 2013 season, but then again, what other options out there do the Giants have that could boost their lineup without Cabrera's presence.

Francoeur, a seasoned veteran, has not put up the same numbers he did in 2011. Last season, he smacked 20 homers and drove in 87 runs all with a .285 average. So far in 2012 he has mearely 11 homers with 33 RBI and a .245 average.

While in his early days with the Atlanta Braves, Francoeur became a hit-the-ball-hard or strikeout hitter. The Braves had great expectations as they saw the young outfielder come up through their system. He was third in Rookie of the Year voting in 2005, losing out to Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies. Willy Taveras of the Houston Astros finished in second.

Francoeur, if anything, provides a strong arm in the outfield. He is currently first in the American League with 13 outfield assists.

The Giants will call up Justin Christian who is hitting .343 in 303 at-bats this season. He has an on-base percentage of .409 while hitting 7 home runs, driving in 35 runs. Christian has 28 walks and 35 strikeouts, showing discipline at the plate.
