The Buffalo Bills acquired LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Eagles for linebacker Kiko Alonso, but reports say the running back is unhappy with the deal and if he holds out, there is a chance he could be traded by the Bills and teams like the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings could be interested if that happens.
McCoy comes in after putting up some great numbers over the past six years, but he had a high cap number for 2015 and without a pay cut, Chip Kelly felt he had to trade the RB. Kelly took over team personnel control this offseason and he already is wielding it, trading McCoy and cutting both Cary Williams and Trent Cole. McCoy could be an option for the Bills to trade if he doesn't show for team activities or refuses to take a pay cut, but they likely want to keep him in Buffalo.
According to ESPN.com, McCoy is not happy about the deal to Buffalo, with the Philadelphia Inquirer reporting that he was "frustrated over the trade". McCoy is one of the most versatile backs in football and if he is on the block again, teams in need of an RB could go after him. The Dolphins are in need and the Cowboys could be if they lose Demarco Murray. The Browns got rid of Ben Tate last season and could be an option, while the Vikings could make a move if Adrian Peterson doesn't end up returning.
McCoy is one of the most productive backs in football and while the trade cannot be completed until next week, reports from Adam Schefter and other sources have it agreed on between the two sides. The Bills felt they were good enough to be a playoff team last year and adding a player like McCoy could put them over the top. But if McCoy is unhappy and doesn't want to report to Buffalo, another trade could be possible. Mike Rodak from ESPN speculated that the Dolphins, Cardinals, Colts, Cowboys and Raiders could be interested in a deal if the Bills entertain offers.
The deal for McCoy means CJ Spiller isn't getting re-signed and there is a chance the Bills could also ask McCoy to restructure his deal. McCoy has a cap number at nearly $12 million and is getting paid over $10 million in salary this season, which is why he was likely traded. The Bills ranked 25th in the league in rushing. McCoy has had over 6000 yards and 40 touchdowns in his career with the Eagles and now he could be moving on if he stays unhappy.
This marks the second year that the Eagles have parted ways with a franchise star, as Kelly released DeSean Jackson last offseason. Phil Sheridan at ESPN.com hinted at a possible move with McCoy earlier in the season, writing that Kelly does not value the running back position like other coaches. While that didn't mean Kelly doesn't see it as important, Sheridan wrote that Kelly feels he can find quality players at the position at a cheaper price.
