Right now, New York Knicks' fans are simply thinking of what is to come for the franchise. The 2014-15 season is essentially over for the team as they sit with the worst record in the NBA and have no chance of getting much better with injuries running through the roster. But, Carmelo Anthony told fans to have faith in the bigger picture with Phil Jackson which includes chasing some big names.
Jackson is preparing to make his mark on the Knicks roster come free agency. The team has money spend with the intention of doing so and they could be in play for some of the top names in the league. The Knicks' wishlist is certainly a long shot, but Jackson along with Anthony might be enough star power to pull some players to the Big Apple.
Kevin Love remains on the Knicks' wishlist despite his trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. During last summer when the Minnesota Timberwolves were shopping the forward, New York made an offer on Love, but were shot down due to their lack of draft picks. Love might be playing in Cleveland, but his contract is still expiring which has many teams believing there is a chance he departs this summer. According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Boston Celtics have Love as their No. 1 along with the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls. Love continues to maintain that he still plans on remaining in Cleveland.
"...so yeah I mean, the Knicks are a great franchise to be a part of, but as of right now I'm a Cleveland Cavalier, and I see that for a long time being, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens with my career. But as far as playing in New York, it's unlike anything else, it's really truly a treat," Love said, via the New York Post.
Another player that could be a long shot is Rajon Rondo who has been on New York's radar for some time now. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the chances Rondo re-signs with the Dallas Mavericks is slim. The point guard is not happy with the coach. Could he be willing to sign with Anthony, a long-time friend in the league. The forward told the media he will be doing recruiting in free agency once his knee is healthy.
Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Monroe and Reggie Jackson are a few other players the Knicks are targeting. However, so is every other team in the league. They have the money to spend, but New York must win the recruiting battle.
