The Indianapolis Colts are ready to make moves, as they have Frank Gore and Andre Johnson visiting the team late Tuesday and they could sign free agent deals and this comes as the team also is looking at Trent Cole and Percy Harvin as options and if they sign Gore after he backed out with the Eagles, it could lead to the release of Trent Richardson.
According to ESPN.com, Gore and Johnson are flying together to Indy to meet with the team and Gore has already agreed to a contract. Gore backed out of his deal with the Eagles, as he was not sure about the type of offense the team would be running, according to Adam Schefter. The team was going to sign him to a three year deal and that appears to be what the Colts are signing him to as well.
Pro Football Talk reported that Johnson was a target for the Colts and now the two former Miami Hurricanes could reunite in Indy. Andrew Luck needs a new veteran wideout with Reggie Wayne gone, while Gore will take over for Trent Richardson. Last season Gore had over 1000 yards again and he has been very durable for a running back his age.
According to ESPN.com, the new deal is going to have over $8 million in guaranteed money. Johnson was released by the Texans and teams like the Packers, Patriots and Seahawks could be potential landing spots. The Colts are considered to be one of the best teams in the AFC and they have a nice amount of cap space with some deals coming off the books. Gore was expected to leave San Fran and news came out that he would sign with the Eagles. Things fell apart at the last minute and it looks like for good reason, as the team just traded Nick Foles to the Rams.
The Indianapolis Colts made it to the AFC championship game this past season and into 2015 they will be looking for more and in free agency, names like Frank Gore, Percy Harvin, Andre Johnson, Trent Cole, Justin Forsett, Shane Vereen, CJ Spiller, Michael Crabtree, Reggie Bush and Torrey Smith could be options to support Andrew Luck and this comes as Trent Richardson could be traded or released by Indy after his suspension.
The Eagles traded LeSean McCoy and now have moved Foles and that is why they went after Gore. Gore had wanted Jim Harbaugh to return to the Niners and his exit made Gore's inevitable. Gore now will be the starter if he signs with the Colts and that was a major need for the team at RB this season.
The Colts have had issues with Trent Richardson, as he was suspended at the end of last year and dealt with weight problems during the season. Richardson has been an overall disappointment and there is a chance the team could look at his trade or release this offseason. Richardson has had a disappointing stint with the Colts and his time in Indianapolis could be nearing an end after the way 2014 went. Richardson was suspended for two games and was inactive for part of the playoffs and that could end up leading to his departure from Indy this offseason.
