Olympic gold medalist, Andy Murray faces a tough call ahead in his journey to capture his first Grand Slam title. He comes into the 2012 U.S. Open ranked third in the world is in currently in the second bracket of the Men's Singles first round.
Do you know which other tennis stars lie on Murray's side of the fence, none other than Roger Federer. Federer is the world's No. 1 Men's player in the tournament. Although not a force like Federer, the always animated Joe-Wilfried Tsonga stands in the way of Murray's dreams of hoisting a Major trophy into the air on the last day of competition.
However, the good news for Murray and his fans is that Tsonga is the only Top 10 ranked player in their bracket. Including Tsonga, there are only three players ranked in the Top 20, Marin Cilic is 12th, Miloc Raonic is 15th and Japan's Kei Nishikori is 17th.
A Murray vs. Federer matchup could be expected in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Murray and Tsonga could bump heads in Round 4 of the U.S. Open.
Although Murray has played well in international tournaments, Federer is by far the favorite. Taking home the U.S. Open title would also mean having to face the favorite on the other side of the Men's Singles bracket, Novak Djokovic.
The road is tough, but Murray has battled and won against these guys in the past.
He comes into the tournament well rested as he did not take part in the Ryder Cup in Toronto and was bounced out of the Cincinnati Open early.
Look for Murray to piggy back on to his Olympic performance in London where he overcame Djokovic and Federer.
